Open House Europe

A collaboration to exchange ideas with other Open House cities and share experiences to collectively work towards our common goal—creating a better festival for the public.

Open House Europe is a three-year collaborative project involving 14 European Open House cities with a shared vision to promote architecture and urban development as a positive force for change.

The goal of Open House Europe is to collaborate and advance the work of future festivals in sustainability, accessibility, and inclusion, as well as to contribute to a more open debate on architecture and urban planning. The project also aims to introduce collaborative methods for knowledge sharing, engage audiences, and enhance cultural accessibility.

Partners: Open House Athens, Open House Barcelona, Open House Bilbao, Open House Brno, Open House Dublin, Open House Essen, Open House Lisboa, Open House Milano, Open House Praha, Open House Slovenia, Open House Stockholm, Open House Tallinn, Open House Thessaloniki, Open House Vilnius

The project is co-financed by the European Union.

Many exciting activities

Open House Europe has introduced a range of new activities and events held across the continent. The project includes annual meetings in various European cities, a volunteer exchange program, a digital platform, competitions, and a series of innovations in the Open House festivals.

Volunteer Exchange

The Volunteer Exchange Program allows volunteers from partner cities within Open House Europe to travel to another partner city and participate in their local festival. Each year, Open House Stockholm hosts several exchange volunteers.

Visual Stories

Festival visitors can participate in open calls for Visual Stories, which encourage exploration and interpretation of the annual themes of Open House Europe through their own experiences and knowledge gained during the Open House weekends. See Visual Stories 2023.

Open House Europe Theme 2025: Inclusion and Accessibility

Every year, Open House Europe selects an annual theme to highlight current challenges and opportunities in architecture and urban development.

The theme for 2025 explored Future Heritage – how our shared architectural heritage can serve as a bridge between the past and the future.

By exploring buildings, public spaces, and infrastructures, the 2025 theme shed light on how we preserve, adapt, and reshape our urban environments in a time of great change. How do today’s choices influence future generations’ understanding of history and identity? Which stories and values do we choose to carry forward?

Throughout the festivals, the partner cities within Open House Europe offered unique insights into these questions, with a special focus on how we can create a sustainable and inclusive heritage for the future.
