Värmeverket “The Art of Repurposing - Creative Hubs and Experimental Neighbourhoods”

Photo:

Värmeverket is a creative hub in an abandoned heating plant in Bredäng. We support creators and young people in the cultural industry.

Theme:

Staden växer, Stadsliv, Arkitektur nu & då

Värmeverket was designed by architect Carl-Evin Sandberg. The 5,000 square meter concrete labyrinth opened its doors in the early 1960s and was the central heating source for large parts of Bredäng. The heat came from the combustion of oil. When district heating was introduced, the operation ceased, and the property stood empty for almost 50 years—until 2017, when we moved in and began a new journey, with a completely different type of energy at its core.

The old industrial charm has been carefully preserved and is seamlessly intertwined with modern attributes that run throughout the building, opening up opportunities for observation and inspiration.

The large influx of light streams through our beautiful glass block windows with high ceilings from early morning until evening, highlighting the warm brick walls that merge with the concrete floor in the same aesthetic.

Värmeverket provides opportunities for creators, musicians, and artists of various kinds and at different levels to grow and take their careers to the next level through scholarships, educational programs, career development, and networking. We offer access to sought-after facilities: music and podcast studios, event spaces, co-working areas, film and dance studios, and a creative workshop where members can utilize these unique facilities to collaborate and learn. Värmeverket is not just a place; it’s a meeting point where diverse groups from different parts of the city can gather, interact, and serve as a springboard for a creative career.
